Smartphones can turn off randomly, which may be caused by a variety of issues. This error can happen on any phone – Samsung, Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, you name it, as well as on different operating systems. Both iOS and Android can’t guarantee you from such a situation. Then, what are the most common causes for such a malfunction?

    1. Hardware issues

When the internal components of a phone, such as the motherboard, processor or memory, are damaged, this can result in system malfunctions, including unexpected shutdowns. These hardware issues can be caused by a number of other factors: damage from physical impact, exposure to extreme temperatures, natural wear and tear, or even manufacturing defects.

In this case, the phone will have to be taken to professional technicians for diagnosis and repair, as these problems are rarely something that you as a user can solve. Replacing parts of the hardware or even the entire device may be necessary to resolve the error.

What to do? Hardware problems usually require professional intervention. You should get the phone diagnosed and repaired by the team of an authorized service center.

    2. Poorly picked parts

The use of alternative parts – not the original ones from the manufacturer – can lead to your phone turning off by itself due to their incompatibility or poor quality. Batteries, screens and power connectors may not be manufactured to the proper standards, resulting in device malfunction. Yet it is USB cables and chargers that are the most frequent generators of problems, as they often fail to meet the manufacturer’s specifications.

What to do? You should use only the genuine parts supplied by the manufacturer or purchase proven quality parts from trusted suppliers. And only contact the best professionals available – such as the Repairs Bay iPhone repair in Brooklyn – if you need to restore the full functionality of your device after some components’ malfunctions.

    3. Software issues

Software errors can arise for a number of reasons, including programming flaws, conflicts between applications, more or less dangerous viruses, or corrupted system software. In some cases, a specific app or system update may be the exact culprit.

What to do? Keep the operating system and applications up to date to resolve the absolute majority of software issues. If some problem persists, you may need to factory reset your device, but remember to back up your data first.

    4. Faulty battery

When the battery is damaged or worn out, it may not consistently supply power for the device to function properly. This can lead to sudden power outages and phone shutdowns. A battery with reduced capacity may not be able to sustain the operation of the device for extended periods, causing the phone to turn off when the charge is low. This problem is known to haunt those who, by their occupation, constantly need devices turned on.

What to do? Calibrating the battery can be a first step. To do this, let it discharge completely and then charge it to 100%. If the problem persists, you may need to replace the battery with a new one.

    5. Overheating

Excessive heat can damage the device’s hardware. Therefore, when the smartphone detects that it is getting too hot, it can automatically turn off to prevent permanent damage.

Causes of overheating can range from prolonged use of resource-intensive apps such (demanding high-end games, video streaming, etc.) to direct exposure of the device to high-temperature environments. It can also be caused by hardware failures, such as a faulty battery or the device’s cooling system, which can also generate some problems for you to deal with. It is recommended to avoid using your phone in ways that could cause it to overheat, and if the problem persists, seek technical assistance.

What to do? Make sure the device has adequate ventilation, especially during heavy use or charging. Consider using a case that doesn’t retain heat and, of course, avoid leaving your phone exposed to heat.

    6. Power button failure

The power button can be defective, stuck or subject to physical damage. In this case, it can send wrong commands to the system, as if the user is pressing the button to turn off the device. The same can happen if the dirt builds up around the button – it may cause it to get stuck in the pressed position. This dysfunction can be intermittent, making the problem difficult to diagnose.

What to do? If you notice that the power button is physically stuck or not responding properly, try cleaning around it with a soft bristle brush. In case of physical damage or wear, it is recommended to take the device to an authorized service facility for button repair or replacement.

    Conclusion

When your phone turns off for no reason, it can be quite confusing. This could be due to a hardware, software, or even a malware problem. In some cases, you can fix it yourself – which may be easy, yet at times shall require some attention on your part.

It’s worth noting that the listed causes of phone shutdowns are, of course, the most common. But the ultimate list is much longer, and if the above-mentioned ways of eliminating automatic shutdown have not helped, consider taking your device to the professionals for repair.
